September has been an exciting and interesting month for me. Figuring out the end of Summer and getting ready for the beginning of Autumn, September flew by. I’ve been busy working on the blog and looking for a full time job at the same time. Luckily, both are going at a good pace and looks exciting time ahead. With all this going on I’ve been grateful for a few things I enjoyed this month. Some new additions and some old traditions. My September favourites –
My cozy robe and a cup of tea
Sipping a hot cup of tea in the wee hours, cozied up in my favourite robe is one of the best things I enjoyed. The need to be a cozy in the morning reminded me that Summer is getting over and Autumn, my favourite season is at the door. This robe is from the last season from M&S, however they bring versions of it every year. This was a gift from a friend. The quiet hour of the morning watching the sun coming up is a beautiful feeling that fills me up with a lot of peace and energy at the same time. Whenever, I have this one hour to myself, I’m my most productive self.
Fig and almond shake
This fig and almond shake is one of the gems from my husband’s satchel. During the past hot summer months, he’s been experimenting with various fruits, berries and nuts combinations and this one is my favourite. Whichever way he makes it, it’s the perfect combination of sweetness, crunch and nutty/fruity flavour and very filling at the same time. On days when I want to have a light breakfast and am especially lazy to cook something. This fig shake is a complete saviour. Plus when your husband is cooking something, why say no? 🙂
Trench coat
Moving one from food to fashion. If you’ve haven’t read my post about my Autumn wish list, I’ve been on the lookout for a trench coat and guess what? I found one! Well, actually two. The MANGO Classic Cotton Trench Coat in Beige and Navy. I loved the fit and style of these so much that ended up getting these in both the colour options. Of course, I absolutely enjoyed styling these for the simplicity and comfort of just throwing these on any of the outfit I wore. It not only elevated the outfit, but also, was practical. For one thing specially, I didn’t have to worry about where to keep my phone all the time! This is a purchase I am happy with and can already see getting my pennies worth out of it. I will talk more about it in my post about how I styled my trench.
Ankle boots
The whole of Summer I enjoyed wearing sneakers and sandals. Ankle boots have been a welcome change, particularly on those chilly mornings and evenings, when my feet were too cold. I loved wearing my Dr. Martens anytime I had to walk a lot. However the ones I have are suedes, hence not a viable option for rainy days. I was also looking for something with a bit of a heel. Hence I added a couple of more boots to my collection. A black western style boot from Anna Field and a lace up ones from XTI. Both these boots have been pretty comfortable for a budget option. These looked nice paired with both my straight and skinny jeans as well as dresses. Just threw my newfound trench on and I had a great outfit. 😉
Driving
I was finally able to get my Dutch Driver’s license this month and made sure of using it :). This is my first time driving a left hand drive and to be honest it felt a little strange in the beginning. However, I got used to it in no time. The public transport in the Netherlands is more than praiseworthy, possibly the best in the world and I enjoyed travelling by trams and trains. If you ask me, there’s actually no need for a car to go from point A to B. Nevertheless, I still wanted to get my hands at driving, especially when we planned to cover a longish distance and sometimes in the later hours of the day. I must say, the traffic management overall is one of the best in the world and I enjoyed my first driving experience.
Books
How could I not mention reading? In the early morning hours, cozied up in a housecoat with a warm cup of tea, there’s of-course a book in my other hand. I love to read and especially in the morning when I have time. You can also see my post about books that had a big impact on my life. I read two books this month.
I had loved The Kite Runner from Khaled Hosseni, so decided to pick this one up as well. You can read more about The Kite runner in my earlier post about books. This book has been on my list forever, however all book lovers know sometimes it takes forever to read what’s been on the list. A Thousand Splendid Suns is another tragic yet beautiful story about Afghanistan and all the challenges the country has been through since Soviet rule until mid 2000s.
This is a surprisingly interesting book. Surprising, because I was expecting certain rules, habits to follow and even some kind of exercise to ultimately reach the conclusion about what is my Ikigai. While all that followed, nevertheless, I liked the emphasis this book has on the future. With frequent young deaths that we are witnessing these days, a hope and faith in the value of older age is invoking zest for life. The examples of centenarians or in general people who have lived much longer than average age expectancy. Them being involved and busy with what they loved to do and producing not just some of the, but best of their work during these years. It’s definitely inspiring and showcasing our life, our contribution and society in general in a much more positive way.
So this was my spiel about my favourites in the month of September. Do share what was your favourite this past month. If you like, you can read my other posts for the month of September.
