Anytime I think about spring fashion the iconic dialogue by Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada flashes in front of me – “Flowers for spring? Ground-braking. (eyes rolling)”. Even then, flowers is not something I am opposed to in general spring or any other season. 🙂 There’s something about flowers that makes a garment look relaxed, feminine and to some extent dreamy. While winter is about to say goodbye for this year, I’m looking forward to Spring Summer. Including spring cleaning and the whole shebang.
Now is the time in fashion world to drop the trends of the season. From luxury to high street brands to follow what the expert predict is going to be “cool” for the season. Well! I am no fashion expert nor am I someone who sticks to trends. Nevertheless, I do look forward to the change of season and adapt my style to what’s comfortable and stylish for that time of the year. Here are some styles I am looking forward to for this spring –
1. Dainty florals
Let’s start by addressing the elephant in the room. Yes, flowers for spring still sound amazing to me. For my petite frame though, I prefer dainty tiny wildflowers though. Imagine Allie Hamilton dancing away with Noah on the streets of South Carolina in The Notebook. That’s the vibe I get from those dresses. I had one (very similar to this) when I was probably 2 years old and the only memory I have is of the photograph my parents took. I’m sitting on a rock on a family picnic minding my own business. Whether it’s a print or embroidery it gives a feminine touch to any style of clothing. FOREVERNEW always has wonderful options when it comes to florals. Here are a few of my favourites as of now –

- Mini Dress With Print- Zara

- Sasha Cord Detail Blouse – FOREVERNEW
Midi and Maxi Skirts
Winter months when temperature reaches below freezing for me are too cold to experiment with skirts. Unless they are knits or leather. As we start to see more of the Sun and it warms up a bit, I like to don skirts and this season I am looking forrard to midi and maxi skirts. There are a lot of denim versions that I see and am keen to try. I haven’t worn a maxi denim skirt since 2004 and they say trends repeat every 20 years. No wonder we see ‘90s fashion craze growing so much. I’m not keen on everything coming back, but long denim skirts are the exception. As the weather’s getting warm I don’t mind other fabrics too.

Silks and Satins
As a fabric who’s not a fan of a good quality mulberry silk? Whether it’s a sari (my forever love), a dress, skirt, a shirt or a camisole. Silk is surprisingly comfortable in both cold and warm weather. Since it’s natural fabric it’s breathable and falls beautifully. You need to be careful about maintenance but what is that when it comes to all the benefits you get from it. If silk is not your fabric of choice a good quality satin is also amazing. I am waiting to wear a few silk pieces in the coming months.

- Louisville Print Silk Shirt – Lily silk
- Satin midi skirt – Mango
- Pleated satin midi skirt – Mango
A pop of colour
Leaving behind the colder months and black and brown hues, it’s time to inject some colour into our wardrobe. As you start to see more light during the day, it’s perfect time to have some colour. I love neutrals but being an Indian and that too a Rajasthani, I have special place in my heart for colours. It’s not good to deprive me of it for too long. Think about pinks and oranges and greens pared back with a denim or neutral shades. These will pop and give your outfit a fresh feel. Not many will remember this outfit on Preity Zinta from Kal hon na ho. Another reminder of ’90s trends coming back. It’s time to bring out those colourful dresses, tops and skirts and If the weather is still cold, there are wonderful options available in knitwear. You can even have a pop of colour in your outerwear pieces. You’ll find some more colorful options in my latest post about Sezane.

- Tori Boyfriend Blazer – FOREVERNEW
Stripes
Stripes is like denim for me. It’s a staple for every season. Whether it’s knitwear in winters and long and short sleeves tops in spring and summer. The nautical vibe always feels fresh and adds a little something to an outfit. Maybe it’s just my personal choice that I can’t recall, I’ve ever been without striped outfits in my wardrobe. It also gives me sort of Audrey Hepburn vibe. For my petite frame though, I prefer thin stripes and usually with an off-white combination. Even though, my husband still relates it to an Indian jail outfit. 🙂
Leather jacket
This is one category, I’ve been talking about since Autumn. 🙂 Check out my Autumn wish list. I did manage to get my hands on a brown leather biker jacket. Who knows this will be the season when I find the perfect black leather jacket I’ve been waiting for? I have loved long wool coats and yet when the time is just right, it’ll feel good to chuck those and don something lighter. Am I cool to pull off a good biker jacket? Who cares? As long as I love to wear it, I’m gonna! I know all the high street brands always have a few styles in their collection. Do you have any favourite brands and styles for leather jackets? Let me know in the comments below.

- Bomber jacket 100% leather – Mango
- Leather biker jacket – Mango

Knit dresses
I might be over the long coats and jackets for the few months now, but not the knit dresses yet. With the weather warming up, it’s time to show off the dresses underneath while still staying cozy. From thick wool to thin versions, maxi or mini, depending on the day I’m waiting to experiment styling these with knee high boots or ankle booties. A scarf wrapped around your neck and you are set to paint the town red.

- Rosie Tie Front Knit Dress – FOREVERNEW
- ENOLA DRESS – Sezane
- DREW DRESS – Sezane
Leather bottoms
This one’s on my list coz I haven’t had enough. I didn’t probably go out enough or didn’t have enough opportunity to wear my leather clothing, trousers or skirts. Maybe I feel am too old for these or I just avoid these for office days. Not that it’s forbidden. Whatever said and done, I am still looking forward to get my wear out of my leather trousers and hopefully leather skirt. 🙂
- Asymmetric Overlapped Leather Mini Skirt – & Other Stories
- Leather midi skirt with panels – Mango
- Pencil skirt with leather effect – Mango
- Straight trousers with leather effect – Mango
Hope this list inspires you to bring out some old pieces and experiment with some new ones. Until next week. Ciao!
