August is quickly claiming a strong position in the list of my favourite months. So far the honour has been reserved for ‘ber’ months. I love that the Sun stays out for longer hours, evenings have the pleasant breeze and holiday season means much less traffic. While, I’m still waiting for a holiday, in the meantime, I’m having fun with the outfits that are quite different from my usual favs in winter. Here are my favourite outfits this season.
Shorts
August has some of the hottest days here in the Netherlands. For a couple of days the temperature crossed 30 degree Celsius. For those extra hot days, as the first summer outfit, it’s fun to pair shorts with a variety of tops and accessories. In this outfit below, I paired it with a billowy mustard top from Jcrew.. Combining it with a straw hat and a pair of slides gives it a feminine chic look. The outfit looks classic and comfortable. Keeps me cool in those warm days and the hat keeps the sun out of my face.
In a complete twist this outfit is leaning more towards masculine side. These slightly Bermuda shorts from Tommy Hilfiger are quite old. In fact every piece in the outfit is at least a couple of years old besides the bike. 🙂 I love the juxtaposition of a masculine outfit with a feminine bike.
Styled the same black shorts with a striped tank and Sezane Will Jacket. Making it more casual and sporty look. The jacket adds a twist compared to a regular denim jacket.
Flowy trousers
I am loving the feel of flowy lightweight trousers this summer. These go really well with slides or you can dress these up with a pair of heeled sandals. In these pictures I have paired these with tanks and bodysuits. I also love the look of these with a pair of cotton sweater.
Chinos
This ecru pair of chinos from Jcrew has been my favourite this season. I love the colour, the fit, the style and definitely recommend Jcrew for petites.
I love a good pair of chinos in pastel shades. I’ve a white one from a few years ago that’s become a bit too snug for my liking. So, I got this one from Levi’s in a light pink shade. Goes really well with white and black. I wore these with a white Air Tee from Everlane. This outfit could look a bit on the Granny Chic side, which I don’t mind in those days when I’m looking for extra comfort.
Cotton sweaters
Cotton sweaters are my saviour in the cool summer evenings. I am one of those people who feels cold even in 24 degrees (celsius). Cotton is breathable and lightweight for this time of the year. it’s comforting to know that I won’t be sweltering in something like wool, yet, will be comfortable in either windy weather outside or air conditioning inside.
This olive green sweater more of a loose weave. Hence, even more breathable. Gives a cool, sporty look with these running sneakers.
Skirts
Skirts, especially short ones are another wonderful option for summer. Even though these haven’t been staple in my wardrobe. I’m trying to incorporate them more. I paired this Sezane skirt with the same cotton sweater.
Jeans
Denim is and will always be a part of my wardrobe staple. It’s practically my uniform. The two favourite for summer are one in light blue. This one is the Wedgie Straight from Levi’s and Ecru one is from Mango. I love to style these with Stripe and various light and bright tops.
Dresses
Last but not the least

For an even more feminine look, I’ve been loving this billowy paisley print dress from Ritu Kumar.
