I am not a fashionista, I don’t follow trends and I am not in my teens (we’ll not get into how old I am just yet) with trends on my fingertips.
I enjoy dressing up much as the next girl though. I like to shop and try things as they catch my eye while being not too trendy or over the top. Every now and then I do come across Youtube videos of hauls that influencers post about.
Most of my life is lived in the Indian subcontinent. This is my first summer in the Netherlands (technically over now). I currently have the luxury of spending almost all my weekdays out. Also, The long hours of sunlight has helped me in getting good clicks after 5:00 p.m. So why not share my experiences with you all?
Here are the outfits what I enjoyed wearing during these long summer days.
Good old Jeans and t-shirt
This is practically my uniform. I’ve been wearing these for decades. However, this time I was able to try the Levi’s 501 cropped. I had my eyes on these for some time now, however could not get a hold of a pair until recently. So, as soon as I saw these I grabbed a couple of pairs immediately. I can assure you that I did not regret my decision. These are comfortable enough for summer days when you want things to be a little loose and thick enough for those windy days, when you would like to cover your legs. I paired these with t-shirts from Mango or Arket or any other solid t-shirt that is a good fit and cut. Call me old fashioned, but this summer outfit combo was at the top of my list for most days.
Shorts with t-shirts, tops and tanks.
These were my saviour for those too warm summer days when wearing a jeans was unthinkable. I confess, the weather this year has been much too warm than I expected. I loved to go out as the cool breeze still made it nice, the clear blue sky and clouds were so appealing that it was difficult to stay indoors. Shorts – both denim and non-denim came to my rescue. A couple of combinations that I most enjoyed were in neutrals with solid colour t-shirt and with striped tops. I was glad to try pairs with / without a belt and both untucked and tucked in. Since I am a petite, I always believed that I would only look good, if I wore shirts and tops tucked in, however to my surprise, even though I tried these with a well cut striped top untucked, it turned out looking really good.
Mini dresses
With all said and done, some of the days were too hot even for shorts. 🙂 Yes you read that correct. Whether I was craving for something a little more flowy or I wanted to be slightly more dressy. These short dresses turned out to be a really good option. I could always carry a little denim or a leather jacker if it became slightly chilly in the evening. The LBD with sleeves and looser cut was my favourite for those really hot days. I did not like anything touching my skin when I left the house and was glad to have the jacket when it became suddenly chilly by the time I came home. The floral dress with thin straps was really nice option for when I wanted to feel a little more put together on a date.
White chinos
What I really loved about these was obviously the colour. For some reason on those bright sunny days the white colour was really soothing and easy on the eyes. Paired with another light colour t-shirt or top it was one of the best combination. A perfect pair for when you want to just run errands, go shopping or just spend an evening on the beach. Looked and felt wonderful in every setting.
Indian traditional outfits
My love for Indian traditional outfits is as long as I remember. Perhaps it was watching my mom dress up while I was growing up, I always wanted to wear sarees. Although, I wouldn’t say, I wore traditional dresses too often, however it was fun to be able to wear them during these summer months on special occasions like festivals and trips to temples. I especially liked how soothing and comforting was the touch of silk suits and sarees. I am certainly looking forward to next summer to wear these more often and who knows even during autumn it would be nice to wear a nice silk suit with a Kashmiri shawl. 😉
Overall it has been a beautiful summer and now I can’t wait for Autumn!
