This is my first time living in a weather where I can justify wearing any coat. Nevertheless, a trench coat is something I’ve dreamt of styling for many years now. There’s something about, structured trench, all buttoned up with knee high boots that gives a very chic vibe. We all know the hype around a Burberry Trench 🙂 . My interest was piqued and I wanted to know more about it. So, I googled (imagine eyes smiley) the origins of the quintessential British trench and was not disappointed. A trench coat outfit is perfect any day.
A little bit about the origins and history*
In 1879, Thomas Burberry invented ‘Gabardine’, a water resistant cotton fabric that was also breathable. Unlike its counterparts at the time used to make raincoats. He especially made these coats for the WWI soldiers, who were working in the trenches. Hence the name ‘Trench Coat’ became famous. During the war its epaulettes were used to display an officer’s rank and it’s belt’s metal D-rings were used to attach equipment.*
*As mentioned on the Burberry website.
I’ve been glad to style a trench this year. As a petite, it’s a struggle to find any coat that fits you perfectly and doesn’t look like something you stole from your husband. I concluded my search at a MANGO store, and I was pleasantly surprised. The fit and structure is perfect for my petite frame. Luckily, I was able to find it in two different shades. I bought a Classic Cotton Trench in beige in XXS and a navy one in a size S to be a little more roomy. The colours and sizes offer me enough versatility to style in different ways. Here are a few ways I have already styled my trench –
With an all black outfit
With an off white straight jean and beige ankle boots
Striped blue and white top and sneakers
Navy blue flair dress
With my Indian traditional outfit
Paired with a sweatshirt and sneakers
There are million other ways I can see a trench styled and I will keep experimenting. Check my post about Autumn wishlist.
