Winter season is at its last leg here in Europe. Looking at the past few months, I’ve enjoyed the new pieces in my Autumn / Winter wardrobe. In November, I shared wish list for this season. Since then I haven’t been as regular with my posts as I had hoped. It’s time I shared something about my favourite season. One of the trickiest outfits in these cold months is shorts.
It’s no secret that I love jumpers and sweaters and being bundled up in coats and scarfs. Nevertheless, I’m also a sucker for variety. No matter the weather I like to change things up. Styling shorts in winters is not always easy. In this post I share a few outfits with shorts while still keeping yourself warm and safe.
To keep it simple, I am using just one pair of shorts from Sezane and styling it in a few different ways.
Pair with turtle neck or mock and ankle boots
Depending on the weather, I like to pair shorts with thin turtle necks. Especially in the beginning of autumn, when it’s not too cold. It’s nice to have your arms covered and yet not be overwhelmed with a lot of clothing. 🙂 It’s still a good idea to cover your toes. Add a bit of edge and style with ankle boots while keeping yourself warm.
The type of knit you choose on top will make this outfit more masculine or feminine, festive or casual. Like with this mint green wrap jumper. It make you feel you are in a movie in the 70s. The mohair fabric and knitting style makes it look a very delicate piece. Paired with a rough and tumble leather shorts, it’s an intriguing contradiction.
Thin or chunky knits with tights
To embrace a bit more wintery look, style your shorts with a pair of tights. I have paired these with sheer tights, an off white v neck and pair of tan Chelsea boots. I am warm enough and yet not drowning in a mountain of fabric. To step outside I can always throw a jacket or a trench and it becomes even more chic.
Pair it with a black knit and match with black opaque tights to transform this outfit completely. Now it becomes a lot more dressy or even festive. There’s mystery, there’s drama. Have fun with it. 🙂
With knee high boots
You can make or break an outfit based on the boots and shorts combination you choose. Pick a pair of relaxed knee high boots with the shorts and you’d look like you are on a spy mission. I would refrain from a sock boot style when pairing with shorts, unless those are over the knee boots. In this picture I paired it with a chunky cable knit to give it a more casual appearance. The black boots match with the black stripes and off-white base complements the sheer tights and brown shorts.
Sweatshirt and ballet flats
No matter how much I enjoy dressing up. I feel at home when I’m in my sweatshirt. It’s like comfort food for me. And if the weather permits why not. A pair of your favourite sweatshirt with shorts and a nice nude pair of ballet flats. You won’t get me out of that outfit anytime soon. Cozy up with a cup of hot chocolate and your favourite holiday movie. What more can one need?
There! Those were a few ways I would style a pair of shorts. Which one is your favourite? I would love to know if you like to wear shorts in cold weather or you save them for summers? Let me know in comments below.
Until next week. Ciao!
